Swanton Morley Robertson Barracks
Swanton Morley, originally an RAF station, was taken over by the Army in 1996 for Robertson Barracks now home to The Light Dragoons, 12 Medical Sqn., Band of the Dragoon Guards and all attached personnel.
The Light Dragoons, known as England’s Northern Cavalry, are a Formation Reconnaissance Regiment., formed in 1992 as an amalgamation of 13th/18th Royal Hussars (Queen Mary's Own) and 15th/19th The Kings Royal Hussars.
All Service Families Accommodation is behind the wire. The camp is one of the most modern within the Army estate. The Community Centre is considered to be one of the best in Brigade, and is always looking for new initiatives to improve the service provided. The Centre is home to the HIVE, which is linked to many outside information providers. The Salvation Army Red Shield Services Café is well established.
Within the wire there is a fully equipped gymnasium that is open to all personnel and dependants above the age of 16. There is also an Astro turf, Tennis Courts and sports field. There is an Officers Mess, Sgts Mess, Cpls Mess, Sports Bar and NAAFI Bar and Spa Shop (with cash point facility). A large Community Centre is home to the Welfare Team, HIVE, Internet Access, and the Red Shield (Salvation Army) Café. A mobile library visits the barracks every 2nd week.
